It has been said in the scriptures that if God curses you, then Guru can protect you from it but even God himself cannot save you from the curse given by Guru.

That's why Kabir also says

गुरु गोविंद दोनों खड़े, काके लागूं पाँय ।
बलिहारी गुरु आपनो, गोविंद दियो मिलाय ॥

Meaning in English

Here Kabir says Teacher is even greater than God. He says, if teacher and God are both in front of me, who will I greet first. He then says, it is only because of teacher’s teaching that I am able to see God.

Every year the full moon of Ashadha month is celebrated as Guru Purnima. The Guru is worshiped on Guru Purnima.  In India, this festival is celebrated with great reverence.

In the ancient times, when the disciples used to take free education in the Guru's ashram, on this day, they worshiped their Guru with full devotion.
On this day, not only the Guru, but whoever is older than himself in the house means that parents, siblings, etc. are considered as gurus and blessings are taken from them.

Importance of Guru Poornima

this day is also considered to be the birth anniversary of Krishna Dwaipayan Vyas, the author of Mahabharata, according to Hindu scriptures.  He was a great Sanskrit scholar.  Epics like Mahabharata are given by him only.  In the eighteenth chapter of this, Lord Shri Krishna preaches the Gita.

The author of all 18 Puranas is also considered to be Maharishi Ved Vyasa.  He is also credited with dividing the Vedas.  For this reason, he was named Ved Vyas.  Ved Vyas ji is also called Adiguru, therefore Guru Purnima is also known as Vyasa Purnima.

Why is the rainy season the best for Guru Purnima?

All seasons have their own importance in the year of India.  There is also a reason why Guru Purnima is celebrated especially during the rainy season.  Because in these four months there is neither excess heat nor excess cold.  This time is favorable and best for study and teaching.
